Digitisation equipment and workflows present many challenges for remote, small organisations. Digitisation is vitally important for the preservation of the culturally significant content in remote collections. Many collections are housed in hot, humid and dusty rooms and buildings, with magnetic media being particularly at risk.
The Preservation Subcommittee of the Remote Archiving Strategy Reference Group is working on the development of specifcations for quality assured digitisation of analog moving and still images as well as audio recordings.
The work of the Preservation SubCommittee is closely linked to the establishment of digital format standards.
It is expected that specifications for digitisation equipment will be availble by mid 2015.
